Clarinetist/saxophonist Sidney Bechet, like his contemporary Louis Armstrong, was key in helping create the sound of jazz in the 20th century. "The Unique" serves as a requiem for the Dixieland legend. Drawn from a pair of 10"s released in 1952 & 1953 by Blue Note, and later combined into a 12" shortly before Bechet's death in 1959, Match-Ball Records have added two additional tracks to this reissue, available for the first time on vinyl in a quarter century.
